Hyper keratinization with pigmentation-

This is a case of a patient who is in the 60’s and is a chronic pan chewer along with betel nuts. The patient has no pain or sensation in the affected area. The patient used to keep pan in the affected area for around 30 years. The mucosa of the affected area was lost by deposition of keratin, this roughened area was deeply pigmented red due to the habit. There were some more areas of hyperkeratinzed ,as seen in the picture of the same case. The roughened area could be felt when a probe is moved over the surface.
